DSP Demos updated

All demos were updated and can be used in the practical work assignements as a reference.

FIR Filter Designer

THe IIR Filter Demo was updated with regards to the available inputs. Non-recursive and convolutional computations are now possible.

All demos are available in a number of languages – the Dutch language variants were shown above.

DSPESE information updated

The information for taking and successfully completing the Digital Signal Processing (DSPESE) course has been updated for the 2020-2021 school year.

The login details for downloading the documents can be found on Education Online. All other information can be found on this site.

The theory lessons for this course will be provided online through the usual HAN channels for a period of seven weeks.

The practicals, on the other hand, will be performed at school in room B129 / B133.

DSD information updated

The information for taking and successfully completing the Digital Systems Design (DSD) course has been updated for the 2020-2021 school year.

The login details for downloading the documents can be found on Education Online. All other information can be found on this site.

The theory lessons for this course will be provided online through the usual HAN channels for a period of seven weeks.

The practicals, on the other hand, will be performed at school in room B129 / B133.

DSPESE software demonstrations have been extended

For the DSPESE practicum, I have added an IIR Filter demonstrator to aid in undertstanding the book examples and training exercises.

The IIR filter designer is based on the algorithms in Lynn & Fürst’s book. It can do the following things:

  • Compute the time-domain impulse response and frequency domain transfer function for a fully recursive difference equation based on the convolution principle for an LTI processor.
  • Compute the time-domain impulse response and frequency domain transfer function for a z-domain specified list of zeros and poles.
  • Compute the time-domain impulse response and frequency domain transfer function for a analog turned digital filter based on the Butterworth algoritm. Chebyshev support will be introduced in a later version.

The IIR Filter designer shares the evaluation method with the FIR Filter Designer tool that the students are familiar with in assignment 4. It can generate these testing signals as a stimulus for the filter:

  • An impulse signal
  • A step signal
  • A square wave
  • A cosine signal

The filter output can be observed in the test window.

The tool is multilingual and can be used in :

  • Dutch
  • German
  • English
  • Chinese (有中文)
  • Vietnamese
  • Indonesia (Bahasa Indonesia)

School closed – what are we going to do?

The school is closed due to the Corona pandemic. The duration of the closure is until April 6, but an extension cannot be ruled out.

In order to continue with the lessons of this block / semester, I would suggest the following:

  • The practicals for the courses DSD and DSPESE are fully available in the zip files on this site and via SVN.
    • The DSD practicum must be performed with an Altera DE10 board. This board can be purchased from Engineering’s materials service, or it can be purchased independently.
    • The DSPESE practicum can be performed almost entirely without additional hardware (assignments 1-4). Practical setup is necessary for assignment 5. This assignment will remain for the time being, but if it eventually turns out that the school will also be closed in block four, an alternative will be presented.
  • The theory lessons are cancelled. This is replaced by self-study according to the study guides DSD and DSPESE. In addition, a question time will be organized every week via Skype or Microsof Teams.
