Why

Check whether your system can handle all critical load situations in practice.

How

In a stress test, you place your system under an extreme load: mechanical, electrical, or software, to discover whether it can withstand this load. Many standardised test machines and setups are available for all kinds of stress tests, however sometimes you need to build your own test setup. Properly chosen stress tests provide confidence in good system operation over the full lifetime of the product.

Ingredients

  • Knowledge of all relevant operating conditions.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards with respect to ‘system-under-load’.
  • A setup to put your system under load.
  • Safety measures, in case of unsafe system breakdown.

Practice

Stress testing is used to investigate that a product safely functions in the field. Specialised testing companies offer stress testing services, so you do not need to do all the testing yourself.
