Why

To make sure you cover requirements pertaining to all stages of the product lifecycle.

How

Consider every step of the product lifecycle (from origin to waste) and describe the related requirements. Typical steps in a product lifecycle are: originating, distributing, using and disappearing.

Ingredients

  • A product description.
  • A vision of the situations the future product could encounter.
  • Description of the steps that could happen at every stage of the product lifecycle.
  • Understanding of improper use.
  • A tool (for example a Process Tree or checklist) to describe a chronological overview of the steps in the product’s life.

Practice

To make a product successful, it needs to pass through many stages, not only the use stage. Therefore, product designers need to consider the complete product lifecycle .
