Why
Detail the chosen concept by describing characteristics in order to manufacture the product and to inform the client and other disciplines, for example: manufacturing, assembly, and suppliers.
How
The detailed design contains models, drawings or specifications of the product and argumentation for the design choices. These documents are important in order to keep stakeholders informed about design choices, and as a stepping stone for the manufacturing unit.
Ingredients
- Design/prototyping tools such as Adobe, SolidWorks.
- An ability to unambiguously model and visualise the design.
- Appropriate modelling techniques.
- A list of requirements that gives direction to the aspects that should be detailed.
Practice
Design details are represented in design practice, although the tools used differ greatly from project to project.
